A military court in Nigeria has sentenced six soldiers to life in prison for selling thousands of guns to suspected Niger Delta oil militants. A judge said the soldiers, led by Maj Suleiman Akubo, had sold some 7,000 weapons including machine guns, rifles and rocket-propelled grenades.

The European Union is threatening to withhold aid to Kenya unless a recent report’s recommendations on January’s post-poll clashes are implemented. The report called for an international tribunal to try the politicians and businessmen implicated in the violence.

An Indian navy warship has destroyed a suspected Somali pirate vessel after it came under attack in the Gulf of Aden. The INS Tabar sunk the pirate “mother ship” after it failed to stop for investigation and opened fire instead, an Indian navy statement said.
