Libyan Leader and current AU chairman Muammar Gaddafi has asked Guinea Bissau’s authorities to delay planned elections, saying that there wasn’t enough time to conduct credible elections

Guinea’ s speaker interim president and former speaker Raimundo Reira who was sworn shortly after the assassination of President Joao Bernando Vieira to head an interim administration had promised to conduct general elections in 60 days

The embattled West African state has gained notoriety in the last few weeks following the assassination of its Army chief and President. Guinea Bissau is also embroiled in a long running battle with South American drug cartels. A recent report by the UN identifies the former Portuguese colony as a major transit route for narcotics
