A section of Nigeria’s civil society has accused the Federal Government of embarking on a spending jamboree in a project which is supposed to re-brand Nigeria’s image.

Spokesperson for one of the groups said that the previous administration had embarked on a similar project with some measure of success; he argued that resources should be utilized in providing more jobs and social infrastructure

Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Professor Dora Akunyili had last month announced for the submission of National logos and mantras from the public in a renewed re-branding bid for the country

However the minister drew the ire of the Nigerian parliament when she refused to disclose the source of funding for the project.

In the 90’s and early 2000’s Nigeria’s image suffered largely from military despotism, crime and corruption-the country was once ranked by the Transparency international as the most corrupt country in the world.

However strong anti-corruption structures, stable government and healthy macro- economic growth figures has seen the country regain some respect in the comity of nations in recent years.
