The United Nations human rights commission has criticized the South African Government over its poor handling of refugees in its camps.

Several hundred Zimbabweans are currently taken hostage at a Methodist Church in Johannesbourg. “Several promises have been made to being made to us by the government yet there is very little to show for it” one of the refugees said.

South African Government sources say they are holding discussions with the refugees on their possibility relocating from the church and on how to assist the refugees. However the refugees accuse the South African Government of taking too long to arrive at a decision.

Thousands of these refugees will be leaving in appalling condition if they are left without a building or a proper shelter over their heads, the commission says

The refugees’ camps have swelled following a lingering socio economic and political crisis in neighbouring Zimbabwe and a fall out of bloody xenophobic attacks in major towns and cities last year.
