A militant faction in Nigeria’s restive Niger Delta said on Thursday it had blown up an oil manifold operated by Italy’s Agip in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
“Our revolutionary fighters overpowered soldiers of the occupation force of the Nigerian state … before going ahead to blow up the Agip Tura manifold,” the Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC) said in an emailed statement.
There was no immediate independent confirmation.
The attack would be the second in as many days in the Niger Delta, where an amnesty programme last year had brought more than six months of peace.
The JRC on Wednesday claimed an attack on Royal Dutch Shell’s Kokori flowstation in Delta state. Shell confirmed an explosion had damaged the un-manned facility but said there was no impact on output as it was not producing.
